  • samantha put a lot of attention, love and hard work into her preparation and that resonated with our audience...her talk was everything we hoped it would be: dynamic, funny, honest and thoughtful. It broached challenging topics in a careful and considerate way, which allowed the audience enough room to feel safe and empowered to speak freely.

Speaker Biography

Laughter, empathy and liberation are central pillars of samantha’s work, as she unpacks systems of oppression and guides participants to their own values and definitions of being whole, rooted in love and abundance.  She deploys games, technology and humour to cultivate fun and safe spaces to tackle challenging topics.

samantha began her path as a volunteer sexual health educator at Planned Parenthood Toronto in 2011.  Her love with the ever evolving field of sexual health and providing one-to-one support, drew her to community health promotion locally and internationally.  She has since worked as a counselor in a number of sexual/reproductive health clinics, as a mentor training other sexual health educators and traveled to develop education and resources for women’s empowerment projects abroad.  Her goal is to replace ideas about sex and relationships that originate in patriarchy, misogyny, capitalism, and shame, with ideas stemming from abundance, sex positivity, love, and choice.  Her work is LGBTQ2S+ inclusive and youth positive.

Patterns samantha identified through her clinic experience, namely the connection between negative sexual health outcomes – including self-doubt/consent related sexual violence – and low self-esteem, anxiety, and challenges with communication in relationships with, led her to founding Inner Development Project (2016), a Toronto-based outreach program, facilitating workshops with young women/non-binary youth.

Guiding principles of her practice are anti-oppression, empathy, intersectionality, joy of learning and liberation.  samantha bitty is most fascinated by the nuanced impacts of internalized systems of oppression, and passionate about changing the way communities access education, art and resources.
