Go Your Own Way: Success Through Your Inner Voice As a young girl Lauren was cripplingly shy and timid, and as a result became a target for bullying. Her small stature and ethnicity were not accepted by her peers. From the outside her life appeared ordinary, but inside she felt anything but. Despite all of her perceived shortcomings and the various emotional hurdles she experienced growing up, Lauren stayed true to herself and always did what she knew was right for her. By following the inner voice deep inside her, Lauren achieved great things by focusing on the things she loves. Through poignant honesty and humour Lauren will inspire your campus audience to find their true life’s passion and never give up until it they’re living their dreams.

Beyond Bullying: Breaking the Stigma Through Conversation Lauren never forgets her adolescent experience; feelings isolated, alone, and tormented having been bullied through most of grade school. Lauren has spurred conversation on mental health awareness by lending her voice to the Bell Let’s Talk initiative. She can shed light on overcoming the suffering of bullying and how to deal with it in the present. She was a spokesperson for The Walk So Kids Can Talk, the largest annual fundraiser for Kids Help Phone. She hosted the half hour special Much Talks: Degrassi, a companion piece to an episode dealing with suicide. The special was designed to open up the conversation around depression, suicide and common mental illness. Lauren draws upon these experiences to facilitate discussion and openness around mental health issues.

Social Smarts: Engaging Online Audiences Through trial and error and converging her television presence with complimentary online conversation Lauren figured out the secrets to being socially smart. Whether it’s One Direction and Bieber fans hating on her or passionate Degrassi fans wanting to know the inside scoop, Lauren believes strong online brands are built through honest and thoughtful engagement. With over 25,000 followers on Instagram and 90,000 followers on Twitter, the twitter and insta obsessed could learn a thing a or two about what gets the RT or double tap and what just slides on by into the ether.

Living Mindfully: New Ways to View the World Lauren Toyota is an animal lover and a vegan. GASP! A vegan.  Living consciously in all aspects is not an easy thing to do nor is it an overnight transformation, but Lauren can speak poignantly about how to take the first steps and deal with the social struggles of coming out of the vegan closet. She has constantly been evolving her commitment to this lifestyle and now understands her role as a global citizen. Lauren is trying to encourage the world to make better choices with her lifestyle blog hot for food. Her most recent role was on MTV Canada’s series After Degrassi, where she riffed on one of her favourite shows that she’s been watching forever! She even got to make a cameo appearance on season 12 of the cult series. Lauren was also featured on the MTV News Canada team as a host and producer.

After nearly 10 years on national television, Lauren has conquered it all and is truly living her dream. She attributes focus and visualization, hard work ethic and perseverance, as well as integrity and a positive attitude to getting her where she is today. Lauren started in television in 2005 moving to Vancouver to host and produce the youth lifestyle series 969 on Razer. This launched her career and helped nurture her insatiable love for music, fashion, and all things pop culture. She wowed young Canadians with her off the cuff interviews, bursting laughter, and quick wit and received a 2007 Leo Award Nomination for Best Performance or Host in a Youth or Children’s Program or Series.

In 2007, Lauren landed a position at MuchMusic as a VJ and Producer in Western Canada. She hosted the weekly music and lifestyle series, Going Coastal, and filed entertainment stories for Much On Demand, The New Music, and MuchNews. With her finger on the pulse of music, culture and fashion, Lauren also became the west coast correspondent for Fashion Television.

From 2010 to 2013 she was one of the most prominent MuchMusic VJ’s hosting the stations daily flagship show New.Music.Live., interviewing some of the biggest names in entertainment including Katy Perry, Will Ferrell, and One Direction. She stayed extra busy travelling to L.A., New York, and London to deliver the best coverage of star-studded events like The Brit Awards and the biggest blockbuster junkets. Lauren also hosted the MuchMusic Video Awards 4 years in a row with celebrity co-hosts like Selena Gomez, LMFAO, Psy, and Kendall and Kylie Jenner. In early 2013 Lauren Toyota was given the coveted spot of hosting the channel’s hit reality series The Much VJ Search, where she travelled across Canada challenging wannabe VJ’s with the toughest tasks and eliminating them along the way. 

During her time at MuchMusic, Lauren became a huge asset to Bell Media Inc.’s other specialty channels, guest hosting InnerSpace on Space Channel and InFashion on Fashion Television, as well as appearing many times on etalk as a music expert and guest correspondent. She also created a weekly feature on the M3 Countdown with host Matt Wells.

Currently Lauren Toyota is taking the opportunity to inspire and influence young people through her YouTube channel. She’s passionate about sharing lessons she’s learned, building inner strength and confidence, and encouraging others to follow their dreams, listen to their hearts, and be fearless when it comes to creating the life they desire.
